Migraines

Unfortunately, recently my migraines have come back. I haven’t had any in 3 1/2 years, so I was hoping they were gone forever. They’re those rare ones that usually cause people to become hospitalized, however, the treatments in the hospital never worked on me, so they always just sent me home. Of course, that would be the luck I would have.

I have a genetic defect that causes some medications to be ineffective on me. Painkillers and local anesthetics don’t do a thing for me at all, not even prescription ones. So, it was struggle to find a migraine treatment that works, especially since I would be bedridden for 2 to 3 months at a time.

I have a phobia of needles, so Botox isn’t an option. I also can’t to acupuncture for the same reason. It isn’t that I might feel the needles, it’s that I know they’re there. The fear level associated with a phobia is equivalent to that as if your life is being threatened, so it isn’t something I can just deal with every month to receive the treatments. I read about a daith piercing for migraine relief, and thought of it as a last resort option.

The piercing place I went was great. It didn’t hurt at all, and the gentleman told me they were working with a neurosurgeon for research purposes on that exact treatment. I felt confident that this was the best case scenario for a daith piercing, but I didn’t expect it to really work.

However, I did get those 3 1/2 years free of migraines. It was amazing. Now that they’re back (I’ve had 2 that went on for a few days each time), I can say they aren’t as severe or as frequent, but it’s still early to say. I hope they don’t flare up as bad as before.

Would I recommend a daith piercing for migraines? Not necessarily. Not every place is knowledgeable enough to do this. Not everyone has a daith that can be pierced either. Mine is unusually long and I can pierce it again if I want to. I don’t know if that will help, but I’m thinking about it. Anyway, I would suggest talking to your doctor and researching piercing shops if you are considering this. Make sure the shop is familiar with daith piercing for migraines before making an appointment.

Anyway, in other news, I’m waiting on the cover for Descent of the Vile, and I will reveal it here on my blog and on social media when I get the final version. I’m excited for you to see it and I hope you will like it. I’m proud of the book, and I hope you will enjoy reading it!
